SSLSD Launches a Collaborative Degree Pathway with SLIIT

Chairman of SSLSD Mr. Kumudu Fonseka signed a MOU with Por. Lalith Gamage, managing director of SLIIT Computing (Private) Ltd, on Friday 18th March, in a bid to provide higher education opportunities to expatriate Sri Lankan students in Doha.

This programme was initiated mainly to allow young students, still in their teenage, to complete the foundation level of a degree while staying with their parents. Secondly, this is also aimed at facilitating the parents to find a convenient degree pathway for their children from an internationally recognized university at an affordable cost, thus saving their hard earned money.

School will be able to offer this course at an affordable cost since it will utilize the school campus for lecture rooms and laboratories and employ some of the existing qualified teachers as lecturers. SLIIT will organize a train-the-trainer programme during summer holidays in order to orientate teachers for delivering the course.

SSLSD, in partnership with SLIIT, will offer a choice of two pathways to complete Degrees in either Business or Computing. This will allow students to do the foundation year of either of these degree programmes at Stafford Sri Lankan School, Doha and complete the remaining years at SLIIT, Colombo or in UK. Moreover, the Business Degree students have the option of doing their last two years at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada or University of Bedfordshire in UK while IT students have the option of doing their final year at Sheffield Halam University or University of Bedfordshire in UK.

Entry qualification for the programme is IGCSE or GCE O/L and the students in the program will acquire an internationally recognized degree in the fields ICT or Business, preparing them for lucrative careers in either Sri Lanka or overseas. Most importantly the costs of these degree programmes will be very much affordable compared to other similar options in Doha as well as in Sri Lanka.

Once the two parties finalize how the programme will operate, first batch of students will start their foundation degree programme in September 2016 .This will be open for both Sri Lankan and foreign students in Doha. Application forms for the programme with all other details of registration will be available on the school website from 1st May.
