Stafford Sri Lankan School, Doha celebrated the 65th Independence Day of Sri Lanka on 4th February in the school premises on a grand scale. Chairman Mr. Kumudu Fonseka and Mrs. Fonseka attended the event as Chief Guests.
The celebration saw the hoisting of the National flag marking the victory of the nation against colonizers. Sri Lanka officially won independence on the 4th of February 1948.
A traditional dance reflecting on the pride of the nation’s struggle to obtain freedom was performed by Kandyan dancers and a beautiful choral recital by students of the Junior School. The audience that consisted of staff, students and several parents reminisced the pre-colonial and post-colonial eras of Sri Lanka through speeches delivered by students of the Middle School and Junior School.
Certificates were also awarded to students who won and participated in Essay and Art competitions that were held in lieu of the Independence Day. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the two students who delivered speeches on the significance of this momentous occasion.
