With children returning to school after the long summer vacation, Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha decided to offer them some excitement.
The School hosted a two-day Athletics Camp for students with interest and enthusiasm for athletics in particular. A large number of students from Year 4 to Year 13 made good use of this opportunity as the two sports coaches visiting from Sri Lanka carried out the camp together with the assistance of the PE Master of the School.
The trainers who were visiting Qatar from Sri Lanka are eminent sports personnel with many years’ experience training champion athletes. Mr. Ananda Athukorale, Head Coach of the Sri Lankan Athletics Team and Head Coach of Lyceum International School and Mr. Sajith Jayalal, Head Coach and Director of the Institute of Sports Science accompanied two budding champion athletes from Sri Lanka for a special training session. The two youngsters were Ikshura Keerthirathne is the Junior Sri Lankan Long Jump Champion while Dilhani Fernando is the Asian Youth Games Junior Champion (Bronze medalist) in the 800m. It was during this visit that the trainers obliged to hold the camp for the students and visited SSLSD in order to inspire students reminding them that nothing is impossible.
