E-Seminars  at SSLSD

A Series of E-Seminars were organized by students of the Commerce Stream on three topics relevant for the modern day. Senior students of the Commerce Stream attended the sessions.

The first two sessions on Migration and International Trade were held on 27th and 28th September this year. The sessions were conducted by prominent dignitaries: Dr. Piyasiri Wickramasekara, Vice President, Global Migration Policy Associates, Geneva, Switzerland and His Excellency Nimal Karunatilake, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lankan to the World Trade Organization, Geneva, Switzerland respectively gave valuable information about the topics and shared their experiences with the students.

Moreover, the third seminar held on 26th October was on the topic of roles played by NGO’s. This session was conducted by Mrs. Subashi Nanayakkara Aubert, Publications and Celebrity Management Specialist of The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, London, United Kingdom who explained the activities, tasks and responsibilities of NGO’s.

The E-Seminar series is a new addition to the resource material that SSLSD provides to improve the wealth of knowledge offered to students. 

E-seminar – run up to UN Day 2014

Senior students of Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha were fortunate to have an opportunity to communicate with an esteemed dignitary from Sri Lanka in order to discuss the role of the United Nations on 06th November 2014.

HE Ambassador H.S. Palihakkara, Advisor to the Secretary General of Disarmament was also former ambassador to New York, Geneva and Beijing. He is also known for his role as Commissioner of the Lessons Learnt Reconciliation Commission in Sri Lanka.

Addressing the students, he discussed the objectives of the UN, its contributions to the entire world and obstacles or issues faced by this international organization.  

HE Ambassador Palihakkara also opened the floor for a Q&A session which proved fruitful as students were able to clarify common misconceptions about the UN.

Overall, it was a productive session that was held in the run up to UN Day 2014 that will be celebrated by the School on 13th November 2014.
